Personal Statement

  I am fascinated by the intersectionality of history, tradition, and innovation in theatre. How theatre combines elements from the fields of sociology, music, storytelling, dance, and visual arts to produce an immersive communal experience is especially compelling. I am especially interested in comedy as a genre, performance skill, and tool for communication. Moments of humor combined with tragedy hold power for me as an audience member and are the most fulfilling to perform as an actor. Absurdity, silliness, and situational awkwardness allow an audience to examine themselves and the world around them from a comfortable distance. Live theatre, and specifically the collaboration between the creative teams, performers and audience, is uniquely rewarding for me. I revel in the fact that there is always more to research and discover as a performer and collaborator. Every production is an exciting test requiring new and different skills and knowledge. I am excited for new professional theatre experiences and to contribute to my field.
